SOUHRN
Antibiotická terapie respiračních infekcí potkanů chovaných ze záliby je aktuálně velmi diskutovaným tématem. Často dochází k aplikaci antibiotik bez předem stanovené přesné diagnózy a antibiogramu. V takových případech se setkáváme s neadekvátní klinickou odpovědí zvířete na terapii a s nespokojeností majitele zvířete s nedostatečným efektem terapie. Je proto nezbytné správné stanovení diagnózy (ne všechna onemocnění projevující se jako respirační reagují na antibiotickou terapii), zásadní je mikrobiologická diagnostika a v neposlední řadě komunikace s klientem o prognóze onemocnění. Předkládaný článek podává stručný přehled antibiotik využívaných pro terapii respiračních onemocnění u potkanů včetně podpůrné terapie využívané v praxi autorů.
SUMMARY
Antibiotic therapy of respiratory infections in hobby-bred rats is currently a highly discussed topic. Frequently antibiotics are administered without an accurate diagnosis and antibiogram being established in advance. In such cases, we encounter an inadequate clinical response of the animals to therapy and dissatisfaction of the animal owner with the lack of effect of therapy. There is necessary to establish proper diagnosis (not all diseases presenting as respiratory respond to antibiotic therapy), microbiological diagnosis is essential and last but not least communication with the client about the prognosis of the disease. The present article provides a brief overview of antibiotics used for the treatment of respiratory disease in rats, including supportive therapy used in the authors' practice.*
