Hannover. BIOTECHNICA 2011 will offer valuable insights into a major health research program set up by the European Union. One of the highlights will be a workshop on the 11 October dedicated to the "Valorisation of R&D results in the 7th Framework Programme". This international workshop is being organized by the EU initiative "Fit for Health", which promotes and supports the involvement of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in EU health projects.
The workshop is aimed at scientists and project managers in SMEs, research institutes, universities and hospitals engaged in the fields of health, life sciences, genomics and biotechnology. The event focuses on R&D findings generated during the course of the 7th Framework Programme and will provide practical information on patenting and intellectual property rights as well as on how to secure financial resources from venture capitalists and bankers. Participation in the workshop is free of charge. The proceedings will be conducted in English.
EU project "Fit for Health"
This three-year initiative, conceived and financed by the EU, was launched in October 2010 in order to provide a broad range of services to support innovative SMEs and experts involved in the 7th Framework Programme. The consortium of 27 partners from 22 countries comprises highly experienced research management companies and FP7 national contact points (NCPs) for "Health" and "SMEs", including innovation experts and training specialists. The project provides SMEs with tailor-made support covering the complete innovation pipeline in the healthcare sector - from initial project idea to the valorisation of project results, including consortium building, proposal writing, grant negotiation and project management.
A database has already been set up to give SMEs and researchers the opportunity to share their expertise and know-how. This increases their visibility within the European research community in the healthcare sector and maximizes their chances of being identified as potential research partners for EU-funded projects.
